Sweden's Henrik Stenson shot a closing five-under 66 to capture the second PGA Tour playoff event, to take the lead in the play-offs standings from Tiger Woods.
Stenson, who won on the PGA tour for the fourth time in his career, finished at 22-under 262 to tie the tournament scoring record at the TPC Boston.
American Steve Stricker finished two shots back in second place.
Canada's Graham DeLaet shot 69 to finish alone in third and Sergio Garcia of Spain shot a 2-over 73 to tie for fourth with three Americans, Jordan Spieth (62), Matt Kuchar (66) and Kevin Stadler (68).
The 37-year-old Stenson, from Gothenburg, posted his first win on the PGA Tour since the 2009 Players Championship by rolling in six birdies in a Monday finish.
Stenson finally broke through with a victory after some runner-up performances this season. He finished second at The Open Championship and the World Golf Championships-Invitational followed by a third at the PGA Championship.
Jason Day was the top-placed Australian in a tie for 13th on 14-under after a final round of 2-under 69. He moves up to 12th in the playoff standings.
Marc Leishman finished tied for 16th on 13-under, after a final round 70. He is now 58th in the rankings.
Adam Scott, who came second to Tiger Woods in the first play-off event, finished tied for 53rd on 6-under after a closing round of 1-over 72.
He slips to third on the overall rankings behind Stenson and Woods.
Heavy rains all week led to low scores and plenty of delays, including two more on Tuesday (AEST).
Monday's (AEST) third round was completed in near darkness after a lengthy weather delay. Some players had started their third rounds, but the long stoppage forced officials to erase that play and have players go out in threesomes of split tees.
Woods stumbled to a 2-over 73 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for 65th. It was his eighth above par score in 36 rounds in this tournament.
Third round leader Garcia has now won just three of the last 11 times in which he owned at least a share of the 54-hole lead.

The Amazing Saga of Marion Golf Club a little Outside Philadelphia
Merion Golf Club, home-base for the 2013 US Open golf championship, not just has a status as one of the top golf courses around the world, but its saga is really exceptional. When the club membership in 1910 decided to construct a brand new course, they selected a club member who was 32 years old and had not designed one golf course. To think that a person who was on his first piece of work would create such a stunning success that would host five Opens within the next 100 years is really remarkable. Positioned a little west of Philadelphia, there exists an East and West Course, but what we are going to discuss now will be the East Course, the first of the two constructed and the one where the tournaments are held.
Hugh Wilson is the designer who was from Scotland, a member as well as an excellent golfer. First thing he would do was tour England and Scotland for seven months studying and playing the celebrated golf courses of the time that had been there. When you walk Merion during the Open or watch it in the media, you'll likely make out some of the features that you will discern in old courses in Great Britain. Probably the most notable will be the bunkers; the 120 steep-faced bunkering can be quite reminiscent of just what you will see in Great Britain.
The other remarkable thing regarding this great golf course is how tight it is. It was initially constructed on only 126 acres, as in comparison to some which might be 300 acres and more. The initial course was around 6500 yards, and subsequent to the 1981 U.S. Open it had been believed that the small space might make this great golf course obsolete for future Open tournaments. Not only were most professionals able to overpower some of the shorter holes, but bigger galleries and corporate tents required more room. Concerns became alleviated when additional adjacent real estate was then purchased, lengthening the course to its present almost 7000 yards.
Merion Golf Club has had a major impact on several of the golf greats, but two of the all-time premier players stand out. For Bobby Jones, the 1916 U.S. Amateur was the first time Jones appeared in a national competition at 14 years of age. In 1924 he would be triumphant in his first U.S. Amateur victory, as well as in 1930 Jones finished winning the "Grand Slam" of golf by winning that year's U.S. Amateur, every one at the Merion Golf Club's East Course. Seven weeks later Bobby Jones retired from competitive golf at 28 years of age.
The other great player who made golf history at Merion was Ben Hogan. He won the 1950 U.S. Open in one among the great athletic achievements of all time, playing 16 months following a head-on crash with a bus that nearly killed him. He somehow won in a playoff, playing through incredible pain while still recovering from the accident. Really one among the great moments in sports history.

Enjoying TaylorMade Rescue
Enjoying the club so much on the range, I decided to put TaylorMade Rescue Hybrid in my bag for a few weeks for my regular rounds and replace my normal 3 hybrid. I was able to get 8 full rounds in with it and came away fairly impressed. Distance wise it was not any different than what I was used to, but the overall feel of the club was just short of astonishing. It brought me back to the days of first trying out the Rescue-Mid and being sold on “hybrids” at that point. I am not sure I have ever hit a more versatile hybrid than this one and part of that is because of the FCT technology. It is hard to say if the club made my scores lower for the rounds I played, but regardless of that, something was higher each time I picked it up, and that was my confidence.
Armed with the 3 hybrid we set out to the range for some demo time with myself and 2 others and each took turns hitting the club in each FCT position. Just like the R9 driver and fairway wood we reviewed, using the FCT is a piece of cake. Simply unscrew the head from the shaft, line it up the way you would like it setup, and re-tighten the screw until it “pops”. With four settings available (L, R, N, NU) there really is a setup for just about any players out there. What we found even more intriguing was that how noticeable the different settings were for every shot we hit. If nothing else, that was a lot of fun to see. With the ball flight being obviously higher with this hybrid than with the R9 driver or 3 wood, we could REALLY see the FCT in action. Even the high handicapper that was with us saw noticeable differences in each of the 4 settings. Something that really shows how crucial fittings are to the game of golf today.
This is a good looking club, that’s for sure! Seeing how each time you used it you gained more and more confidence I’m positive that it would eventually lead to lower scores. I am on the fence between this and the Nickent 5DX. Planning on going to hit each of them this week and make a decision.

How To Select The Most Effective Golfing Clubs
If you are new to the recreation of golfing, the very first point you require is a elementary set of golfing clubs. A elementary set will comprise of irons, putters, wedges and drivers, and even even though most nongolfers do not feel it, each individual sort of club is made to advance the velocity of your swing and will assistance you proper faults in your recreation. Employing the perfect sort of golfing club is very important and will make the mastering method quicker and simpler. The very first point to give some thought to when selecting a set of golfing clubs is your elementary means amount. There are basically about three means ranges including: minimal handicaps, mid handicaps and substantial handicaps.
If you are a minimal-handicap golfer, you in general score much less than 10 strokes above par. Very low-handicap golfers ought to carry at minimum one particular fairway wooden and a driver as nicely as decreased irons, and at minimum 3 wedges, a pitching wedge, sand wedge and either a lob wedge or procedure wedge. A mid-handicap golfer in the 11-20 handicap variety ought to add a 7-wooden or even a nine-wooden to their bag. The fairway woods will offer a good deal much better manage and consistency than the lengthy irons. Mid-handicap golfers ought to stick to the 3 and nine-irons and the same exact wedges encouraged previously mentioned. Substantial-handicap golfers are either new to the recreation or just haven’t mastered the essentials and ordinarily shoots above 100.
