Watney 'really excited' about direction of his game

ATLANTA – On the heels of a solo second-place finish at last week’s BMW Championship and a second-round 65 that had him climbing the Tour Championship leaderboard, Nick Watney has clearly turned his game around.

Of course, the question remains: Is this good timing because it happened before season’s end or bad timing because it didn’t happen sooner?

“The way I was playing, it's definitely not bad timing,” he explained. “I wish it was January, but I'll take it. I'm real excited about the direction I'm going in. Like I said, I'll take it any time. The offseason, I'll just keep working hard and hopefully hit the ground running next year.”

Watney posted seven birdies against just two bogeys at East Lake on Friday and claimed he fed off playing partner Keegan Bradley throughout the round.

“He birdied the first two, and I didn't want to get embarrassed out there. I knew I had some work to do. It took me 17 holes to catch him, but I finally was able to do it.”
